The Great Turtle is a collective name for the tribes that inhabited the region between Malam and Loodon rivers in the first half of the second revolution.

Strictly speaking, the tribes did not occupy a single cultural or even linguistic space: some tribes spoke the Teamatian youzi, some spoke in the various dialects of Nalarli, and at least three western tribes spoke in the precursor of the Kefan language. The name "the Great Turtle" was adopted by Yammoe who viewed the tribes as a tool to push back on the New Dawn settlers.

One of the larger youzi-speaking tribes, led by Daur Megeg (chief Megeg), was supported and organized by Yammoe to unite other tribes under Daur Megeg's flag, mostly through conquest. This united force was then used by Yammoe to target the sparsely populated state of Kartas and drive the settlers out. The resulting Great Turtle War lasted for a century and ended in the defeat of the Great Turtle and its dissemination throughout the region. A minority of the native population stayed in Afanyu, a kingdom that was formed by the settlers after finally driving out the tribes with the help of Osa Nara.
