He is able to recite the history of the [[Continent]] in such great detail because his counterpart is an influential and highly educated historian. The jumps between the worlds are enabled by an artifact known as the [[Dream Seed]]: the historian spent many years tracking one down. The Chronicler explains that the connection is one-directional and his counterpart is not aware of Earth, but that he sees yet another world in his own dreams.
