The Chronicler is the primary author of the Continent Chronicles. According to him, each night when he falls asleep, he wakes up on the Continent and lives a full day as another person. When he goes to bed there, he wakes up back in our world.

He is able to recite the history of the Continent in such great detail because his counterpart is an influential and highly educated historian. The jumps between the worlds are enabled by rare artifacts, known as Dream Seeds, and the historian was able to track one down, which created the bizarre connection. The Chronicler explains that the connection is one-directional and his counterpart is not aware of his other life or the Earth, but that he sees yet another world in his own dreams.
