Gaajmas

Gaajmas /ˌgæjˈmɑs/, (Thonthal: Beeryl) sometimes spelled as Gaaj-Mas or Gaaj Mas, is a mountain range located in Ydoh Rol.

Etymology and meaning

Gaaj Mas is a phrase in Jabi. With a literal meaning of "the seat of mankind" or "the throne of mankind", it is a semi-religious concept that describes the most justified claim to power. If someone is believed to be the true ruler of their people, they are told to be destined for the Gaaj Mas or to be sitting on the Gaaj Mas.

While in early Xaewoon canon the Gaaj Mas is always a metaphor, the discovery of the mountain range in Ydoh Rol was said to have impressed Sopoh Dolysoh so greatly that he called it Gaajmas. It is made clear in some of the records that have not survived but that are mentioned by Porteek that Sopoh did not imbue the mountains with a literal religious meaning and that, in fact, the first version of the name was Gaajmase ("of the Seat of Mankind"). Some early Leykarian records mention the term "Beeryltar", which is translated as "throne-like".

The eventual split of Xaewoon into Xaewoon Blue and Green led to Gaajmas attaining religious significance, which only grew with the split of Xaewoon Green into the light green and dark green strons. Ydoh Rol is to this day considered the only and true Mamkoon for many of the Xaewoon light green followers. The ruler of Gaskal is considered to be the spiritual leader of the light green stron due to the city's proximity to Gaajmas.
