Moreek /mɑr'iː/, frequently referred to in Thonthal literature as Masfa the Splendid, was a tarnarian superhero warrior, legendary and convicted criminal. He is only one of two legendaries in history whose death is documented, as he died in prison.

Life

Moreek's origins are unknown, but he was likely born in Asdoh in the 1st CSR. He traveled extensively and was seen in Gantolia, Yammoe and even in the south of the Continent, in such places as Tawla and Majidee.

He operated as a bandit and robber in and around cities, sometimes working with gangs, sometimes alone. He became an outlaw in Gantolia and moved to Yammoe where he was able to purchase a mansion just outside Tamehliss (although the exact location of Yammoe's capital during that period is unknown). He was evicted from Yammoe several years later.

The next time his presence was felt in a significant way was in Barud, where he managed to engage in armed robbery against several royal transports. A massive hunt was organized against him by Emperor Donoh III. A lot of his accomplices have been captured, but Moreek mysteriously disappeared, with some suggesting he perished.

He then moved north and was said to have met Gened himself somewhere at the end of the 1st CSR. Gened was impressed by Moreek and praised him for the difficulties he had created in Barud. Moreek was granted a title, although no documents exist regarding what the title was and whether Moreek was ever part of Gened's court.

The first decade of the 2nd CSR saw rumors that Moreek set his eyes on Ydoh Rol. This was considered an offense by many Xaewoon believers and a massive hunt ensued during the winter of 106-107. This made Moreek's name even more notorious across the north. Coupled with stories about his exploits in the south, told by pilgrims from Loodori, this made it impossible for Moreek to stay in the region.

His whereabouts are poorly documented until 150 SR, when he again reemerges in Barud. By this time Stogen becomes the quickly rising power in Tarnaria and Moreek claims to act on behalf of Morol, the leader of Stogen. He leaves the failing empire ten years later and ventures into the midst of Stogen land.

Imprisonment

The details of Moreek's imprisonment are murky. He was delivered to Noral in 168, but little is known about his life between 160 and his imprisonment.

Moreek was the first official prisoner in Noral and died there several years later, in 173 SR.

Abilities

Moreek is a unique superhero warrior in many ways: he was only one of the two legendaries to have had a documented death; and he was the only legendary to possess an ability other than insight and longevity, typical of legendaries. His fireball ability was rather weak, with several sources describing the fire as "projections", meaning that it wasn't able to do much harm. But it is reasonable to assume that Moreek was able to use it to his advantage.

Moreek's insight of a legendary is credited with his ability to evade capture for most of his life.

Name

The name "Moreek" is most likely a pseudonym that he used to stress his status. His birth-given name was believed to be Masfa and it is also the name that he used in Gantolia and Yammoe in the beginning of his career. It is during his life in Yammoe, when he was able to require significant wealth and buy himself a mansion, that he began using the name of Moreek.

He was known as Masfa the Splendid among other robbers and bandits, and was massively respected by his peers. According to Porteek, who briefly mentions Moreek when he details the rule of Gened, the "famed adventurer humbly introduced himself as Mosvoh". It does appear, though, that Porteek was not aware of Moreek and his activities in the south, as this became public knowledge in Asdoh and former Toor only in the beginning of the 2nd CSR, whereas Porteek's historical narrative ends before that and never betrays knowledge of anything beyond 105 SR.
