Oordar clan

Oordar clan (Bukkean: Urdor) was a family that came to power in Heran and for several generations ruled many regions, later founding Tref.

Oordar clan is especially famous for being part of a causal loop, initiated by the superhero warrior Farnole.

The actual clan was almost likely much bigger. For instance, Davi the Heranian clearly mentions Hee and Iar negotiating with the Murdoh of Delbar Zor Beekin and promising him the hand of their sister. There are no records of Kren the Younger having daughters. Then again, Davi's interest for the lives of the third generation of Oordars is clearly muted as compared to his coverage of the lives of Kren, Maksag and their offspring.

Rise to power

Oordars came to power in 1513 SR, when Kren Oordar conquered Tonaran, which at the time was so powerful so as to be considered invincible. This made Kren a legend overnight. This feat, as well as Kren's knowledge of the future, allowed Maksag Oordar to expand Oordar's influence to the south and then to the east, culminating in the subjugation of Mantar.

Decline

The death of Kren the Younger, the vanishing of Rodare and the exodus of Hee, Iar and Pherro from Heran at the end of the 16th CSR significantly undercut Oordar clan's influence, and one by one the Oordars in the east lost power, first in Maird, then in Tonaran, Or and Ernele and later Qep. Oordar rule in Mantar ended with the death of Nilma Oordar.

Pherro continued to run and own significant swathes of land in Qep, as well as lay claim to a significant portion of proceeds from the slave trade. His untimely death in 1600, as well as Nilma's decisive subjugation of Qep, forced Hee to pay closer attention to Pherro's legacy in Heran. For a number of years he was able to maintain his grip on the Delavire-Gonne corridor, even helping defeat a massive slave uprising in 1610 SR. But the dramatic changes in the region led to the dissolution of the corridor anyway.

Willing to restore his influence in Heran, Hee was making plans to march on Qep, which was already part of Nilma's Mantareia, but was ousted by Mayeerqnoel and sent to Noral, where he died two years later, ending the reign of Oordars in the west.

Legacy

The Oordar clan left a deep mark on Tarnaria's culture, being associated with political and military prowess, power and wealth.

The return of the Oordars became a common narrative in a number of regions that were vassal to the Oordars during their reign, such as Qep, Or, Ernele. Several warlords later use the claim of Oordar lineage to justify their power, and there was provable Oordar lineage in Maird.

This concern was especially elevated in Tonaran due to the proximity of Maird and Tonaran being the former seat of the Oordar clan. To reduce the risk of confrontation, Tos Darman pushed for formal diplomatic relations with Maird and arranged a marriage between his daughter Palesta and the Mel-Mel-Gole of Maird, Brynt Bloorynoh. The marriage did not happen due to the fall of Tonaran mere months after the arrangement.

Oordars are virtually unknown outside of Bukk-speaking countries, and the history of Tref, although founded by an Oordar, is largely overshadowed by Mayeerqnoel.

Politics

Kren Oordar founded what was essentially the first proto-empire of Tarnaria since the establishment of Mōroh. This set the stage for further centralization of what was historically a very decentralized political landscape. Murdon, who were usually governors of regions or city-states, were now able to acquire significant scope and power due to the amount of Oordar expansion and the inability of the clan to provide enough family members to rule it all, essentially becoming vassal states to Tonaran. This was especially true for Qep and was literally the case for Mantar.

At the same time, the failure of Kren the Younger to use the momentum of Oordar's influence to centralize the clan's power in Tonaran led to the Oordar proto-empire falling apart almost immediately after Kren the Younger's demise.

It has been argued that the ascension of Dormons to power led to the fall of Tonaran, which would have otherwise continued to be the impenetrable fortress it always was, but most historians disagree. The consensus seems to be that the fall of Tonaran included a whole series of improbable events that would have been equally (un)likely regardless of who was on the throne.

Slave trade

Kren's reliance on slave trade and the subsequent invasion and subjugation of Mantar moved slavery to the forefront of Heran economies, possibly reversing the limited social progress advocated by Mantar. In fact, Tonaran, Ernele and Or moved towards less strict laws on slavery, in some cases putting slaves in a better position than peasants, but, partially as retaliation for its previous stance on slave trade, Mantar was turned into a center of slave trade for the next 200 years, and became known for its harsh conditions and draconian laws on slavery.

Religion

Nilma Oordar, known as the Angry King, increased the role of Xaewoon Blue in politics. His persecution of Foft led to its followers being driven out of Tarnaria. As a result, Foft followers mostly exist outside of Tarnaria to this day.

Hee built the city or Oordar in Tref, making it the capital.
